In January 2016 Universal Underground commenced a power cable replacement project for Northpower across the Waihou River.
The two previous power cables laid across the river bed had aged and failed over time. Universal Underground was tasked to drill a 160mm diameter PE pipe across the Waihaou River.
Utilising Universal Underground’s largest drill the 200/240 Universal, setup was established on the west bank of the Waihou River at Turua and drilled 500m deep across the river exiting on the east bank right on target.
